Evan’s Blog

Evan went out today on a hike, and I smartly stayed home to read a new book.  He came back full of adventures, and soaking wet (exactly why I stayed home!!) and decided that he was going to start a blog that was going to consist of the pictures he takes while he is out and the stories he comes home with.

If you want to check it out, go here.

Sick

After spending the majority of three days in bed, I am starting to feel a little better. I still don’t have much energy, or much of an appetite and I can’t breathe, but at least I think I have kicked the temperature (fever) that I have had since Christmas Eve.

I did go buy some Cold & Flu medicine and the lady in the Chemist said there are an awful lot of people coming down the the flu/cough the last couple of weeks.

Christmas

I am beginning to enjoy the traditions Evan and I are trying to have, such as spending Christmas Eve with family, and making Cinnamon Rolls Christmas morning.

Today was fun, even though I am coming down with a very bad cold, or the flu. I have been taking Tylenol and allergy medicine every 4 hours, drinking lots of water and taking naps!!

It was fun to talk to both of our families on Skype and even get to see Evan’s family open their presents from us on the web cam!

Furniture

Our spare room is a dumping ground at the moment for all the things that do not yet have a home.

There are a couple of items that we need to make it useable:
Double Bed
Wardrobe (to store linen/blankets/towels and also for guests to use)

We could also use a couple of bathroom mirrors/medicine cabinets to store our toiletries/medicine in so they are no longer in a basket on the floor of the spare room.

Oh, and I would love to have a couple of Really Useful Boxes to store stuff in under the spare bed once we get it!

We also would like to get a dining room table. If you happen to have a spare one and can get it to West Yorkshire, we would take it!!

Kids Musical

Our church, ALC put on their Children’s musical tonight, Coundown to Christmas.  The kids did a great job and it was an enjoyable evening.

I will say though, that the musical we did at Celebration for Easter far surpassed this one! All things considered, the money, number of kids and adults we had at Celebration, I still think it was a miracle we pulled it off.

ALC had about 50 kids in their production and probably spent triple the amount of money we did for props, etc…and they still sang to a CD.  We almost had a live accomniament except there was no way to practice because the keyboard was always used in the service while we practised.

I think I might offer my services at ALC for the next kids production.  I also want to get involved in Sunday School again soon.

No More Worries for a Week or Two

Yesterday was my official last day of work until the 2nd January. Yes, unfortunately, I have to go back to work on Evan’s birthday.

I worked my 4.5 hours yesterday, came home, showered, got dressed up and Evan and I headed out to our first and probably only Christmas party.  Mercy had our Christmas party at the house.  There were apporximately 45 people there which included the 6 ‘Mercy Girls’, staff and their spouses, and important volunteers or people who have contributed in ways other than money to Mercy in the last year.  I didn’t realise it until Kerry, our Director said it, but this week last year they broke ground on the refurbishment on the house.  WOW!

First Hike

Evan and I woke up to a blue sky yesterday, the first day it was not raining since moving here I think.  So we decided to go for a walk in Wycoller Country Park.  It takes about 10 minutes to get there from our house.  Here is a picture.

Back Online

We are back online. We have actually had our broadband since Monday, but I just don’t seem to have had the time to get online.  With Evan working from home, I only have the evenings and that is when Evan and I have time to spend together.

I am the new Programme Assistant at Mercy and I now work Tuesday and Friday in the Mercy House as an assistant to the House Mangager, Jo.  So far, I am really enjoying it.  I also like the 9-5 work thing…in some ways.  I still think I would miss having time off in the week if I worked Mon-Fri.

Evan sent his CV off today for a part time job as a web designer for a company in Skipton.  It would be perfect, because he could either have the car if I am not working, or there is a bus that goes right there from just outside our house.

At work we are doing Secret Santa for each other.  We had a £10 limit, which I appreciate, because you can get something nice for that amount.  The only problem is, the girl whose name I drew is newer than me at Mercy and I only met her for the first time yesterday.  And when I say ‘met her’ I mean I said, "Hi, I’m Autumn.  Are you Beccy?  Nice to meet you."  That was the extent of our conversation.  It is hard to buy for someone when that is the only time you have met them.  I got her something from the Yankee candle store.  But even that was hard, because I got her a candle holder thing and I don’t even know what colours she likes.  I got a pale yellow one and 3 scents of small candles to use in it.
