It’s always Autumn in England

Life

Well, the weather here continues to be sunny and hot!  I love it.  I have decided if/when we ever decide to leave England, we need to live somewhere where it is summer all the time.  Seasons are great, but I really do not like long, or cold, or snowy winters.  I can definately do without them.

Angela and Graham are doing great.  They bought a new laptop this week, so Evan went over to help them get it all set up.  They are keeping their PC and networking the two computers and using wireless broadband.  Since Graham works from home, it makes so much sense for them to have two computers.  We spent the afternoon/evening with them and had a BBQ, but as we were leaving Jacob woke up and appeared to have a tummy ache.  Hopefully he will settle down and they will get some sleep tonight.  He has been sleeping so well, feeding at 11pm, 2:30am and 5:30am…very good for a 1 week old baby!

Other than that work continues and not much else.  I have pretty much decided that I will stick with my job, not because it pays well, or because I love it, but because nothing else appeals, plus I just am not qualified for much else.  As soon as we have the money, I would like to get my Masters degree in something related to Psych, either Child Development/Counselling type fields…maybe Clinical Psychology, we will see.

Once I get some more pics of Jacob, I will post those.  He had his first real bath tonight and we took several pics of that!!

Jacob Neil Richards arrived at 1950hrs on 20th July 2006.

It was quite an amazing birth…but I need to go to bed, so I can get to work early tomorrow morning.  I will add some pictures and tell the story tomorrow.
Angela and the baby are both doing well!!
Here I am holding Jacob about 2 hours after he was born.

Assistant Psychologist

I applied for an Assistant Psychologist post within the Hospital that I work at a couple weeks ago. I got a letter today saying that I was not shortlisted, and would not be interviewed. I called to get some ‘feedback’ as to why I was not shortlisted and the lady in the recruiting office gave me the ‘official reason’. There were 150 applicants for 2 posts. They shortlisted 6 people. The others were not chosen because of ‘Lack of relevant clinical experience’. I said…’Interesting, since I have been at the hospital for a year now.’ The lady seemed genuinly interested, so she gave me the number of the guy who did the shortlisting…according to policy, she was not supposed to. But I am going to call him and find out why I was not shortlisted. Sometimes, I think I may not want to know the reason…but hey, positive criticism should be a good thing, so I am going to give it a go.

Hot day!

Today was predicted to be the hottest day of the year in the UK.  We have a local weather station and I have their website saved, so that I can look up the current Temp in Northampton whenever I want.  They take a reading every 5 minutes or so.
Today at 15:29 it was 37.3 °C even though the news said today the highest temp in England reached 36.5°C you have here a higher temp…here is the link to the website so you can see for your self!  http://www.brixworth.demon.co.uk/updates/Current_Conditions.htm

For those of you in America, 37.3°C is 99.14°F…and no one has air conditioning.  I am lucky enough to work in a residential hospital setting, so we do, but Evan’s office is on the 3rd floor of a building with no ac…you can imagine what it is like!

Visit to America

Evan and I will be heading to the States for a visit with family and friends in November.  We hope to see as many people as possible, but please do not expect us to travel around too much…it will be enough trying to get between my mom, my dad and Evan’s parents.
Hopefully we will be able to plan a couple of get togethers where we can see as many people at once as possible!

We will be in Indiana from the 10th to 26th November.  Staying with either my mom in Lapel, my dad in Noblesville, or Evan’s parents in Lafayette.

Tents

Evan and I bought a new tent this year. Evan plans on using it for his ‘accomodation’ while at two ECM exhibitions this year…so we got a great deal on the tent! It is a 6 man tent and will easily hold all of our gear that our old 3 man tent just could not cope with. I will add a couple of pictures, but here is the website of our tent: http://www.wynnsteroutdoorleisure.com/pegasus6.htm

In other news…I might be an Auntie again in the next few days!!  I can’t wait!

Restless

The last few weeks I have been really restless, on the verge of board all the time.
I don’t really seem to settle to any activities for very long, not even things I enjoy like scrapbooking.

My job is ok, but I would like to do something different.  The idea of not working shift appeals, but when I think of working Mon-Fri, 9-5 I think I would miss having 3 days a week off.
I am also not sure exactly what I want to do.  The job I would love to do would mean that we would have to move 3 hours north, and Evan really likes his job here in Northampton.
I believe that God will put me where I need to be.  I have applied for a couple jobs I really thought I would enjoy and I did not even get an interview.  I have asked those places to give some feedback as to why.
Some days I am so unhappy in my job, that I don’t think God would want me to feel this bored and in a place where so few of my skills are used.
Some days I wonder if I am exactly where God wants me to be for now and what I need to do is focus on finding peace and contentment in this situation.

Whatever the case, I would like to feel energised again, not drained like I do so often at the moment.  I would like to find enjoyment in my hobbies again, not bored at the thought of doing the same thing all the time…mostly working and sleeping.
I would like to feel confident that I am exactly where God wants me to be, doing exactly what he wants me to do.
