It’s always Autumn in England

Life21 April 2006 9:28 pm

Well, it is 10:30pm and we are packing the last few bits and pieces for Spain.  We have cleaned the house, and I have ordered our groceries to be delivered the morning after we arrive back home.  I think everything is ready, so I will head to bed within the next hour.

Angela, Graham & Abigail will be at our house at 4:45am to pick us up and we will all go to the airport together.  Our flight leaves at about 7:30am!!

See you all on here after 4th May!

I finally figured out how to get the photos to load more easily!  Sometimes, I just have slow days…this is one of them.  I have been at work for 33 hours in the last 3 days…so you can imagine how I am doing!

To add a few comments to the Musical…on the day of the performance, I had two kids who did not turn up…so it looks a bit thin on the ground in the pictures.  I also had two kids drop out about a week before.  But, it went well, and the kids who did perform did a fantastic job.  Keep checking for more pics and also, in 2 weeks, I will post some pictures of our time in Spain!

I finished my last shift at work today at 14:15 for 18 days!  We leave Saturday morning at 4:45am for the airport and Spain.

I have been trying to upload pictures of the musical so you can see a few pictures of the kids and the great job they did, but I am really struggling.  I might give in and put them on my website, where it is MUCH easier to add a photo!

Singing and doing the actions to one of the songs!

Musical 2

This was the final scene and at the end of the song, they all threw their cloths up into the air.  It was the kids idea, and it looked fantastic!

On Saturday, 13th May, I am organising a fund raising event for Mercy Ministries.  You will be able to come and get a Starbucks coffee and look through some information about Mercy Ministries.  I am doubling this day up as a ‘Pampering Day’ for anyone that comes.  For £15 you can have a half an hour massage or beauty treatment - 30% of that will go to Mercy Ministries.

For more info, feel free to contact me!

The musical went really well!  I was so pleased with how all the kids behaved during our final rehearsal on Sunday from 3-6.  I treated them to pizza for dinner, and then during the actual performance, they were terrific.  The comments from people at church were great as well.  Everyone who talked to me, asked when the next one would be!  No one has ever organised a musical for the kids at Christian Celebration before, so I think that the church as a whole was very surprised by what could be put together with the kids.  I was so proud.  And even though Dana Miller does not read my blog, it is due to her, that I was able to direct this musical.  I assisted her with a couple while I was attending Grandview and she was the children’s minister.  So, thanks Dana!

Samuel has also gone home.  It was really good to see him and spend some time with him.  Evan enjoyed having him here, because they stayed up all night together, playing computer games.  They have even decided they will meet online and play sometime!

My nights are going well.  I have coped much better than I thought I would.  I have three nights off, and then I am working Thursday and Friday night, and then I am back to my day shifts.  It will be good to get back to days and see the lads at work again, because I really do not spend any time with them when I am on nights.

Now the only thing I am working on is preparing for the HBC/VBS that I am preparing for 30 kids age 5-12 in Spain.  This is for ECM, where Evan works.  For their Biennial, Evan and I are working with the 5-12 year olds.  We have 6 days of working with the kids, and then we are staying at the hotel for a further 4 days for a small holiday for ourselves!  Should be great!  I can’t wait to lay on the beach and do nothing for a few days!

I just got home from our dress rehearsal for the musical.  It went ok.  It took us an hour and a half to get set up and run through the whole musical.
Most of the kids know their words and there is only one song that I am worried they do not know very well.  It has three verses, unlike the other songs that mostly repeat the same words over and over again!  But the scenery looks good, and we worked on the kids using mikes tonight!

In about 20 minutes, I am heading to work for the night.  I am working 3 nights in a row, and wondering how I will cope.  I have another book to take with me tonight, so hopefully that will keep me awake.  But the signs are not looking good, I changed into my clothes for work 20 minutes ago and have already spilled something on my thsirt and have to change again!

Well, I should go.  I will report back after the musical.  Hopefully with some pictures as well!

Life, Work5 April 2006 7:24 am

It is 8:30am and I am heading to bed after working my second night shift. Amazingly enough, I have managed to stay awake both nights.  I decided not to take a break and sleep for an hour.  Instead, I take a book, my gameboy, lots of food and take frequent walks up and down the corridoor to stay awake!
I have the next two nights off, which I am looking forward too.  This evening we are going to Angela and Graham’s house to watch Narnia with them and Samuel.  Evan and I have not yet seen the movie.  I just hope that I like it, because I love the book and I always seem to be disapointed when I watch a movie based on a book I have read.

Well, good night for now.  I don’t really have the energy to keep typing and correcting my errors due to extreme tiredness!

Life1 April 2006 8:44 pm

I did my last day shift for the next two weeks.  Monday I work my very first night shift ever.  I am dreading it.  I like to go to bed around 11pm and sleep all night.  The days are finally starting to be very nice and warm now, so I am going to miss being outside in the day light.

This morning, before I went to work, Evan and I worked in the back garden. We have dug up a patch and are going to plant vegetables this year. I am very excited about that, but I hope I get time to work in it while I am on nights, I have a feeling I won’t have the time or energy to do any gardening for the next two weeks.

We also got news today, that Evan’s grandpa died this week.  He has been ill for a while and he passed away on Wednesday.  His parents flew to Florida immediately, and just got home from Florida, so they called us.  We have been expecting it for a while now. In fact, last May, his parents cancelled a trip here to visit us because we thought he would not last the two weeks they planned on being here for.  Even when you expect it though, it is still sad.

Well, I guess that is all I have to say, because I just sat for about 30 seconds not typing. I am going to go downstairs and join Evan and Samuel watching XXX (Triple X, with Vin Deisel!!!)  Have a good night.
